Here I Stand

As a good Lutheran girl (born, baptized, raised, confirmed and married!), I am using Martin Luther and his famous Diet of Worms experience as my inspiration for this segment of blog posts. I am calling these posts, "Here I Stand," the words Martin Luther uttered before he was excommunicated by the Pope. Martin Luther was brought to trial for his 95 Thesis and arguments against the Catholic church's practice of buying indulgences in return for salvation. Refusing to back down, Martin Luther knew God was on his side and that what he believed was the true and divine Word of God.

In the same way, I want to live my life saying, "here I stand, I can do no other," when  it comes to my values and principles. I have lots of thoughts, ideas and opinions, but at times I don't feel comfortable expressing them because I am afraid of what other people will think and I am afraid of confrontation. But Martin Luther was not afraid of confrontation and stood up for what he believed was right.

So, here's my attempt to offer my commentary on today's political, religious and social values and stick to my guns while doing it :)
